Taylor Swift Wins Artist of the Year at 2011 American Music Awards
Taylor Swift won her 10th American Music Award in the form of the 2011 AMA for Artist of the Year, beating out some stiff competition from the likes of Adele, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Katy Perry. Weezy was surrounded by a lot of beautiful and talented women in this category, wasn’t he? Nevertheless, Swift expressed a mixture of shock, awe and joy when her name was announced. They like you, Taylor. They really like you. What’s not to like about T. Swift?
Swift, who is viewed as the poet laureate of the pubescent, was flustered and thrilled as she made her way to the stage to give her acceptance speech. She gushed, “This is one of the craziest things that ever happened to me, to be nominated alongside artists I am a super fan of.” Swift slapped her forehead multiple times, as if to convince herself that this was actually happening to her.
She even proclaimed, “I can’t believe this is happening to me. This is crazy. I want to say thanks to the fans … And to the fans, because you are the reason. I have no idea what I am supposed to say since I did not think this was going to happen.”
Swift quickly recovered, declaring, “I love you guys so much.” She also threw a shout out to her best friend, saying, “I love you Selena, my little sister I’ve never had. I love my fans.”
Like interviewer Leslie Stahl said in her ’60 Minutes’ profile of the singer, Taylor Swift is so uncool she is cool. That’s precisely why we and her fans love her. She’s not that much different than us and she is not too cool for school. She’s on our level.
Congrats again, Taylor! You deserve it.
