Two Flint-area schools are reporting that a total of five staff members are testing positive for coronavirus.

Three staff members at Atherton Elementary School in Burton have tested positive for COVID-19 while two members of the faculty at Swartz Creek High School have contracted the disease.

Because of privacy concerns, the names of the individuals who have tested positive have not been released. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports positive cases in schools throughout the state each week on its website.

Last week, two staff members at Grand Blanc High School were reported positive.

The sate reports new cases of coronavirus as well as information about ongoing outbreaks at Michigan's K-12 schools on its website. Click here for a breakdown of new and ongoing cases of COVID-19 as reported by Michigan schools and universities.

The information is updated each Monday afternoon.

Two or more cases of COVID-19 must be reported at a single school building in order for an outbreak to be declared.

Beginning Monday, October 5th, Kindergarten through fifth-grade students in our state's regions that are in phase 4 of Michigan's Safe Start plan will be required to wear masks even while they're in the classroom. We shared details on that information here.
