How do you process the loss of a friend that you've had for twenty years?

Yesterday, I received the news that one of my oldest and closest friends, Horacio, passed away suddenly at the age of 38. They believe it was of natural causes.

How does one even begin to process that?

He had no vices. He drank recreationally, didn't do drugs, and had just lost a serious amount of weight. He worked at a Chicago radio station, as well as doing stand-up comedy, comedy writing and improv theater. I always envisioned us guys growing old together. This was a punch in the gut that I never saw coming.

I like to think that I'm good with my words, but I was at a loss for them this morning. Listening back, I don't feel like I did him justice. But I did the best that I could.

Rest in peace, buddy.
