School Employee Fired for Correcting Student’s Spelling on Twitter [VIDEO]
A Maryland public school employee who corrected a student's spelling in a lighthearted way on Twitter, has been fired.
Seriously?
Katie Nash, who coordinated social media channels for the Frederick County Public School system, responded to a tweet a student sent before an impending snow storm. The student wondered if school would be closed "tammarow."
Nash, who had been empowered to engage students on social media, replied, “But then how would you learn how to spell ‘tomorrow?’ :)”
The tweet garnered thousands of likes and re-tweets, and according to WJZ-TV did not offend the student who had made the initial tweet.
School administrators, however, were not amused. The tweet was taken down, and Nash was terminated.
Nash says she hopes the incident is a learning opportunity for the school system.
