As the goalie for the Detroit Red Wings his specialty is saves . This time he is doing just that, but off the ice.

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard is donating $50,000 worth of N95 Masks to the Detroit Medical Center (DMC). His non profit, The Jimmy Howard Foundation, made the announcement  Wednesday.

“These healthcare workers are fighting the battle of their lives, on behalf of all of us,” said Howard. "They are heroes, and we’ve all got to do what we can to support them and thank them for their tireless work right now and in the weeks to come.

Howard isn't the first Red Wing to step up to the plate and help during the COVID-19 pandemic. A few weeks ago Wings forward Dylan Larkin along with  his father Kevin collected over 50,000 vinyl powder-free and nitrile gloves, They distributed the gloves between  Detroit Medical Center and St. Joseph Mercy Health System.

The Red Wings played their last game on March 10th against the Carolina Hurricanes before the NHL season was paused due to the coronavirus.
