The movie that put Julia Roberts on the map is finally coming to Broadway as a full-blown musical. Pretty Woman, the immortal classic about a prostitute who falls in love with the man who pays her to be his date to public functions, has been turned into a Broadway show, and it’s coming in fall 2018.

The 1990 movie starred a then-relatively-unknown Roberts as Vivian and Richard Gere as Edward Lewis, the businessman who becomes the object of Vivian’s affections. In the musical, Vivian will be played by Samantha Barks, who starred as Eponine in Les Miserables, and Tony-winner Steve Kazee of Shameless will play Edward.

The book for the adaptation was written by the late Garry Marshall, who directed the original movie, and the movie’s screenwriter J.F. Lawton. It features music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and his collaborator Jim Vallance, and Tony-winner Jerry Mitchell will direct and choreograph. The show will begin its Chicago production in March at the Oriental Theater, and the Broadway production will begin next fall at one of Broadway’s Nederlander theaters.

“Self-empowerment is integral to the reason why these two lost souls are able to fall in love and we now have two amazing, charismatic actors with incredible chemistry to take audiences on that journey,” producer Paula Wagner said in a statement.

Mark your calendars and make a few shopping trips for something nice to wear next fall. Not going to see this would be a big mistake. Big. Huge.
