Police Warn of ‘Can You Hear Me?’ Scam
A simple answer to a simple question could get you involved in this scam.
Police are warning of a new scam that doesn't seem like a scam at first. It begins when you get a call from an unknown number and answer the phone. The call can be with a live person or a recorded message. The caller identifies them self as a business, then ask "Can you hear me?". If you reply "yes" you are automatically opted in to receive products you never asked for. When you try and deny the charges, the scammers then play back your recorded "yes". Police say the best thing you can do is let a call go to voicemail if you do no recognize the number.
