Peek Inside This Beautiful Flint Home Recently Renovated by the Genesee County Land Bank
The Genesee County Land Bank recently completed renovating a home on Flint's west side and the results are beautiful.
The Land Bank's mission is to rehabilitate homes that can be restored and tear down blighted structures that are too far gone to be salvageable. Fortunately, this home on Mackin Road falls into the former category.
A Mix of Mid-Century and Contemporary Updates
Michael Freeman is the Executive Director of the Genesee County Land Bank. He told WJRT construction was designed to update the house to meet a modern family's expectations while keeping its original personality.
This three-bedroom home was built in 1957 and had fallen into disrepair in recent years. The Genesee County Land Bank decided to give the home several contemporary touches while keeping a good dose of its mid-century appeal.
For instance, the living room is clean and bright and its double fireplace gives it a classy, contemporary feel. But the tastefully wallpapered accent wall reminds us of the charm this home had when it was new.
The kitchen has been fully restored as well, featuring new stainless steel appliances and restored cabinets and countertops that have some of the charm you may remember from your grandparents' house.
Bathrooms Are a Step Back in Time
While each of the two bathrooms has been rehabbed to appear clean and bright, they really are a step back in time. When was the last time you walked into a bathroom with mint green tile? Or how about pink and gray tile? Although both bathrooms reflect the taste of the Mid-20th Century, neither looks old or rundown.
Downstairs you'll find a finished basement that has a bar built from wood that was sourced from the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity.
