In a prepared statement read from the pulpit, a Montgomery, AL pastor revealed to his congregation that he had contracted HIV which had developed into AIDS, and slept with members of the congregation without revealing his medical condition.

Pastor Juan Demetrius McFarland, who has since been removed from his role as pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist church, also admitted to drug use and mishandling of church funds. He said he had contracted HIV in 2003, and discovered that he had AIDS in 2008.

"Who does this to people, and you are the leader? Who does this?" an unnamed parishioner told WSFA. "I know a young lady who is a member of the church who says she has slept with him and that she didn't want this to go public, and she running out now trying to find out if there is anything wrong with her. And my heart goes out to her because she's been a wonderful church member, and then for something like this to happen. The fact that he didn't tell them at all. That's a crime in itself."

Transmitting an STD is a Class C misdemeanor. The TV station says legal authorities have yet to bring formal charges against the pastor.
