One-Day Clinic in Ypsilanti Provides Free Car Repairs

It takes a village, and this "village" of organizations is coming together for the greater good.

Members of several different Michigan groups including Mutual Aid Network of Ypsilanti, Peace House Ypsilanti, and the Huron Valley Democratic Socialists of America have announced a free car repair clinic to help people avoid potentially dangerous accidents and traffic stops.

The "Pull Over Prevention Clinic” will take place on September 26th from 10 AM til 2 PM at Parkridge Park in Ypsilanti. Social distancing, masks and public health guidelines will be observed so as not to further the spread of COVID-19.

The clinic was created in response to the violent and sometimes deadly endings to routine traffic stops in the past few years. Organizers are hoping that, by handing out educational materials and providing free basic car repair services, they can avoid these situations in the future.

Some of the services that will be available at the clinic include free brake light and headlight replacements, fluid checks, refills, and other basic maintenance repairs.

“These outcomes can be avoided by preventing the traffic stops themselves, and that’s what we hoped to do with this clinic,” organizer Jonah Hahn told Click On Detroit.
