Peanut butter is a very large part of the American diet, more now than ever. Simply because it mixes well with things and it taste great. That's why the folks at General Mills thought consumers would be excited Cheerios comes in a new peanut butter flavor, but parents of children with allergies are very upset about the new cereal.

Get the rest of the story after the jump.

Though the box clearly indicates what's inside, they're concerned because Multi Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter looks like other varieties of Cheerios. Some allergy families that currently buy Cheerios are vowing not to buy them at all for fear of cross contact while processing and to avoid confusion in their own homes.

General Mills responded by saying that they are certain that there will be no cross contamination with regular Cheerios during manufacturing. Plus, there are already multiple varieties that contain nuts like Honey and Banana Nut Cheerios.

I can see both sides, but if I had a child that had peanut allergies I simply wouldn't buy the cereal. What are your thoughts?
