Miller Lite Donating $1 Million to Unemployed Bartenders During Covid-19 Crisis
Miller Lite announced this week that they are donating $1 million to restaurant and bar workers hit hard by the coronavirus closings.
The company took to Twitter with a video message to announce the donation and to enlist some help from everyone else. “Taps are off. But tips are needed,” reads the text in a video the company tweeted. “Click to donate to the millions out of work. We’ll start with $1,000,000.”
The donation is being made to the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG) National Charity Foundation, which set up a “virtual tip jar” to help bartenders during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The USBG offered up a statement on the site saying, “We are raising funds for our COVID-19 Relief Campaign in order to bolster our Bartender Emergency Assistance Program for the influx of applications we know is coming. We are here to help those in our industry most in need, and we ask you to “help us serve those who serve us“.
Miller is being backed in their crusade by the Irish whiskey company Jameson. Jameson has pledged to match dollar-for-dollar donations until March 31st up to a maximum of $100,000.
At this time, restaurants and bars will be closed in Michigan until at least April 13th per Gov. Whitmer's order. In the meantime, please continue to take advantage of take-out meals from local businesses.
