Miley Cyrus – Will History Repeat Itself?

Who didn't see this coming?  Miley Cyrus, "caught" on video smoking the hallucinogenic herb Salvia from a bong.  I say, '"Caught"' because she's mugging the camera, seemingly knowing that the video would wind up online for the world to see.

The Miley promotion machine was once again set in motion.

It actually looks like a calculated move.  Miley began to shed her Hannah Montana image a few years ago when risque pictures were taken, supposedly with her parents' blessings.  Magically, more than just Disney Channel viewers and their parents suddenly knew her name.

So what's next?  I'll predict that the Cyrus camp is not creative enough to do anything but steal its moves from other child celebrities' playbooks.

Is the next calculated move a physical altercation between Miley and either A) an autograph-seeking fan, or B) a paparazzo?  Certainly someone will have cellphone video posted on YouTube within minutes when it happens.

Dana Plato, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan have already blazed the trail, so who knows?  It's possible we can expect the daughter of one-hit-wonder Billy Ray to then "treat" us to one or more of the following:

• DUI
• Unexpected pregnancy, complete with confusion about who the baby daddy is
• Drug addiction
• Marriage/divorce  (wash, rinse, repeat)
• Early death

Miley is mute about the bong incident, and is getting back to work on her next movie, So Undercover, in which she'll play a private investigator, hired by the FBI.  The movie is scheduled to open in 2012.   Expect some promotional stunts from its actress just before it opens.
