Michigan Teen’s Black History Month T-Shirt to be Featured at Meijer Stores [VIDEO]
A teenager from the Grand Rapids area has designed a t-shirt that celebrates Black History Month, and that shirt will be sold at Meijer stores throughout the Midwest.
Elijah Brown tells WOOD-TV that his shirt pays homage to George Floyd and other victims of police brutality. The shirt features a bird in a cage and is captioned, "This isn’t just a month, it’s every day for us.”
“The bird in the cage represents a victim who’ll die from police brutality and finally leaving this cage, which is the world and this society,” Brown tells the TV station.
Brown is a student at the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT), which recently partnered with Meijer in order to celebrate Black History Month.
Trudy Ngo-Brown, director of arts and programs at WMCAT praised Brown for his design.
“He also expressed interest in leveling up and getting more experiences.”
About 4,000 of Brown's shirts have been printed and they'll be available at 220 Meijer stores all this month or while supplies last. Elijah can't help but show pride that his design will be sold at one of the Midwest's largest chains.
“Two-hundred plus Meijer stores, it feels good,” Brown said.
