Michigan Teen Realizes She's Pregnant at 13, Intends to Beat Odds

Kennedy Griest was profiled a few months ago by Livingston Daily. Her story has recently gotten some national attention after it was picked up by the inspirational website 'Little Things.'

Kennedy is a determined, motivated young woman whose life is anything but normal. Now 16, the Brighton teenager is raising a daughter with a lot of help from her mother, who is also a single mom.

Her story began when she was just 13 years old. Griest attended a pool party where classmates pointed out that she looked pregnant. In disbelief, she took a pregnancy test and discovered that her life was about to change.

Although Kennedy says she and her then-boyfriend were not the only eighth graders at Brighton High School who were having sex, she endured a barrage of name calling and ridicule. Fast forward to today and Griest, now 16, is an honors student at Mercy High School, an all-girls, Catholic college preparatory school in Farmington HIlls. She plans to attend college, earn a degree, and "be the best mom I can possibly be,” to her daughter Addi.
