Michigan Store: Free Groceries to Coast Guard During Shutdown – The Good News
They've done it by setting up an account, and members just have to show their military ID.
Bayside Market in Traverse City is lending a helping hand to members of the Coast Guard during the government shutdown by offering free groceries.
Technically, they can't accept gift cards over a certain amount, so the store is circumventing that rule by setting up an account that civilians can donate to, and Coast Guard members just have to show their military ID to pull from it.
When the account runs dry (which, as of December 29th, it seems to already have), they're offering 25% off all groceries other than liquor.
Thank you to ALL of our federal employees who are working without pay right now - we salute you.
