Michigan Mother of Eight Graduates from Wayne State

She's literally a prime example of the American dream.

Najat Machiche came to the United States in 1999 to pursue a PhD in Physics - something her father wanted her to do. When she got here, she started a family instead - a BIG family. She has eight kids, ages 8-17.

Her father came to Dearborn to visit from Morocco a few years back and asked her if she had gotten her degree. She said no, but it inspired her to go back to school.

She enrolled in Wayne State University for electrical engineering and will graduate this month. She was offered a scholarship but had to turn it down because obviously, with eight kids, she couldn't go to school full-time. She took out student loans and plans on going back this fall for her Masters.
