Double Check, Triple Check

The Kent County resident tells Michigan Lottery Connect that he couldn't believe his eyes when he checked the numbers on his Lotto 47 ticket.

“I have been playing the Lottery for years and dreaming of winning big,” said the player. “I checked the ticket Sunday morning and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw I matched all the numbers. I called for my wife and had her look the ticket over to make sure I wasn’t seeing things."

But that wasn't enough. The 60-year-old player insisted on a third set of eyes to check the ticket.

“Once my wife confirmed I’d won, she called for my son to have him triple check the ticket too. We were all stunned!”

One Lump Sum Payment

The 60-year-old player who has chosen to remain anonymous matched all six numbers in the August 19 Lotto 47 drawing to win the $8.75 million jackpot.

He chose to take a one-time lump sum payment of about $6 million, rather than the annuity payments for the full amount.

With the winnings, he plans to finish off some home improvements and invest the rest.

"Winning is life-changing, surreal, and amazing,” the man told the lottery.
