Michigan Man With Suspended License Joins Court Hearing While Driving
Driving on a suspended license is a bad idea. Driving on a suspended license and joining a court hearing via Zoom is an even worse idea.
But this audacious Michigan fella had the stones to do it.
Judge Astonished by Man's Bold Move
I'm sure Judge Cedric Simpson has seen it all. But even after 25 years on the bench in Washtenaw County, Simpson was dumfounded when a defendant showed up for a court hearing regarding a suspended license matter while actually driving an automobile.
We've included the video from Fox 13 below.
It was pretty obvious when defendant Corey Harris joined the Zoom meeting behind the wheel of the car. "I'm pulling into my doctor's office," Harris says.
The judge then confirmed with the court clerk that the case was indeed a suspended license matter.
"Okay, so maybe I don’t understand something," Judge Simpson says in the video below. "This is a driving while license suspended [case], and he was just driving, and he didn’t have a license."
Off to Jail With You, Sir
The public defender in Harris' case asked the judge for an adjournment of up to four weeks.
Judge Simpson then revoked Mr. Harris' bond and ordered him to surrender at the local county jail by the end of the day.
"I don’t even know why he would do that," Judge Simpson muttered.
Not the First Time in Michigan
While Harris' brazen behavior has gained him notoriety (for all the wrong reasons) here in Michigan, he's not the first one to pull such a move.
As the saying goes, you can't fix stupid.
