An Oakland County man managed to contain his excitement and waited until he got into his car to let out a scream after he found out he'd just won a huge lottery jackpot.

The 54-year-old lottery player won $557,137 on a Michigan Lottery Fantasy 5 ticket.

Oakland County Man Thought Lottery Machine Had Malfunctioned

The player, who has chosen to remain anonymous, tells the Lottery that he assumed the scanner was malfunctioning when he was checking his tickets for the November 30 drawing and got a message indicating that he should file a claim.

"I typically play Fantasy 5 when the jackpot starts getting big,” said the player. “When I saw the jackpot was over $500,000, I decided to purchase a few tickets. I was checking the tickets at the store a few days later, and one came up with a message to file a claim, so I assumed the scanner malfunctioned and asked the clerk to give me a printout of the winning numbers."

When he checked his tickets against the printouts, he was in disbelief. He says he didn't want to cause a commotion in the store, so he waited until he got out to his car to let out a celebratory scream.

“When I looked the winning numbers over and saw I’d matched all five, I tried to remain calm because I didn’t want to cause a scene in the store. Once I got in my car, I started shouting with excitement! It was such a great feeling.”
