Karington and Kaidence are learning about Black history and the generations of Black women who have played important roles in the rich history of our country.

Their parents, Jalen and Keyonna Seawright of Troy, helped the girls dress up as Rosa Parks before their trip to the Henry Ford Museum where they visited the bus Rosa Parks sat on in 1955.

"As soon as we entered into the exhibit area and Karington . . . saw the bus, she immediately screamed out, ’it’s Rosa Parks’ bus!’” Jalen Seawright tells WXYZ.

The family honored Parks on what would have been her 108th birthday on Thursday (2/4). They posted a video of the girls' visit to the museum in Dearborn on Instagram and you can watch it in the video player below.

But the girls -- Karington is 3 and Kaidence is 2 -- are learning about more than just historic figures. Seawright says his family was moved by Amanda Gorman's reading of her original poem at the inauguration of President Joe Biden on January 20. He notes that his older daughter immediately asked to get a red headband so she could look like her.

"When Amanda Gorman began to speak, I literally wept,” Seawright said. “It was just moving to be able to see a young Black person hold the stage of the whole country.”
