Upon arrival, he observed individuals near the vehicle and approached them calmly. As they walked toward the car, Landon asked one man for identification. The man first claimed he didn’t have it—then said it was in the vehicle. Landon, maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor, told him to retrieve it.

While the deputy communicated with dispatch, the situation quickly escalated. The man suddenly took off running.
