
Meijer Employee Dies Unloading Truck at Michigan Store
A 59-year-old dairy and frozen food employee has died after being seriously injured while unloading a semi-truck at a Meijer store in Michigan.
What Happened at the Mt. Pleasant Meijer?
The workplace accident happened on July 22 at the Meijer location in Mt. Pleasant, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). Officials say the man was using a stand-up powered industrial truck to unload stock when he fell from the trailer and struck his head on the ground.
He was hospitalized with critical injuries and died six days later, on July 28.

Although his identity has not been officially released by Meijer or MIOSHA, a family member identified him in a comment on the Breaking News 989 Facebook page as 59-year-old Gene Ketchum.

Others commenting on the post said Ketchum had worked at Meijer for about 30 years and remembered him as a kind and hardworking man.

Meijer Responds to Employee's Death
MIOSHA is actively investigating the incident. Meijer expressed condolences to the employee’s family and coworkers. The company said it is cooperating fully with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
