Market Tap announced this week that it would take more than a pandemic or winter weather to dampen their Christmas spirit.

The Winter Bar on the patio at Market Tap is officially opening today, and I am excited. Market Tap is one of my favorite places in Downtown Flint, and the patio is a huge reason why. Located inside the Flint Farmers Market, Market Tap focuses on Michigan made beer and liquor all year round. Now they will be offering up some special Michigan drinks to warm you up on the patio.

I talked to Andrea Bergstrom, the General Manager of Market Tap, about the new Winter Bar. She explained why it was so important for Market Tap to adjust to the current conditions and find a way to stay open.

Being open year-round on the patio gives people an opportunity to get out safely and we can still support food vendors at the market and other pop-ups with local bands.

If you take a drive through downtown Flint, you'll notice that many businesses have made adjustments to offer something unique this winter. The igloo's outside of XOLO and Cafe Rhema are a perfect example. So depending on how warm you want to stay, there are a few different options for you.

The patio at Market Tap obviously will be a little colder than the igloo's, but there are heaters, and what you lose in heat, you gain in room to move around. Bergstrom talked about some of the specialty drinks that will be available at the Winter Bar.

We created some hot drinks with our favorite Michigan made liquor from Detroit city distillery, Valentine vodka, and Ugly Dog. We also just tapped some really great holiday, Michigan craft beer and hard ciders too!

I know most of us are itching to get out and enjoy some social time, so this could be the perfect socially distant scene you're looking for. Just make sure to dress warm, because it is winter after all. There will be a live band and food on the patio tonight, and entertainment all weekend.
