Longtime Hurley Medical Center Security Officer Dies from COVID-19
Rest In Peace, Wendell. Thank you for your service to the residents of our city.
If you've ever been to Hurley Medical Center, you've probably run into Wendell Quinn. Being nearly 7' tall, he was hard to miss. He worked as a security officer at Hurley and was set to retire in June. His entire life was rooted in his big heart through work with the hospital and his church.
Wendell passed away yesterday from COVID-19.
From the Public Safety Director at Hurley:
It is with a broken heart and deep regret that I inform you that our brother, Wendell Quinn lost his fight with COVID-19 today and passed at approximately 4:00pm. Wendell was larger than life. Both in stature and in personality. His kindness and involvement in his community (Both through Hurley and his Church) were corner pinning attributes that we will all miss very dearly.
I cannot tell you how many different employees of the Medical Center have shared with me their fondest memories of Wendell. The absence of his smile and the humanity that he showed to all whom he came into contact with will leave us grieving for some time and will leave a large hole in our hearts.
Please take the time to reach out and comfort each other, as I know we all had our own special relationships with him. Stay strong and please pray for his family at home and his extended family here at Hurley.
May God take comfort in knowing that he just gained an angel of the highest caliber. An angel that, if we pay attention, I am sure will be with us and watching over us for our coming days, months and years.
