The Lapeer Chamber of Commerce believes that the vandalism took place on Thanksgiving.

Lights were ripped from poles and bulbs were smashed on Christmas decorations on Saginaw and Nepessing Streets, as well as poles at the West end of Nepessing near Grace Episcopal Church.

About 75 strands of LED lights will need to be replaced, which is forcing the city to skip other Christmas decorations.

"It's unfortunate that on the day we give thanks that this thankless act occurred," the statement says. "Please if you at anytime observe any one messing with the light poles please ask them to stop, or snap a photo, that's usually a pretty good deterent."
