More sad news out of the entertainment world this morning.

J. Michael Mendel, who produced such hit shows as The Simpsons and Rick and Morty has passed away at the age of 54, just a few days shy of his 55th birthday.

His cause of death has not been released. He helped to create more than 200 episodes of The Simpsons and won Emmy awards for three of those episodes: Lisa's Wedding, Homer's Phobia and Trash of the Titans.

He also produced 22 episodes of Rick and Morty and won his fourth Emmy for his work on that show. He and his wife were also casting directors for shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
