A special education teacher at Turill Elementary School in Lapeer died Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, while on her way to work.

Roxann Johnson, 64, was involved in a vehicle accident on northbound M-24 at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lapeer Schools Superintendent Matt Wandrie broke the devastating news on the school website.

We are saddened to report the passing of Roxann Johnson, one of our beloved elementary special education teachers and a friend to so many in our school community. Roxann taught in Lapeer Community Schools for over 25 years, and as a result has touched the lives of so many beyond the Turrill School community.

According to The County Press, a semi-truck cab was traveling southbound on M-24 when it collided (crossed the center line) with a northbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Roxann Johnson.

The 17-year-old semi-truck cab driver from Genesee County was taken to McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. Reports indicate his injuries were not severe.

The collision is under investigation.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Roxann Johnson. We are thinking of you and the many students whose lives she has touched over 25 years with the Lapeer County School District.
