I Won Something! And I’m Gonna Tell YOU How YOU Can Win, Too

It's taken me 20 years to figure this out, but I know the secret. And I'm ready to share it with you, so you can win, too.

We give away a lot of stuff on Cars 108 - vacations, concert tickets, money, etc. And trust us - we've worked at stations where they give away NOTHING. Where we've had to buy stuff out of our own pocket to give away. So yes, Cars does a great job with contests.

And the most common thing we hear when we get a winner is, "I'm so excited, I never win ANYTHING!" Well, guess what? You won - and how did it happen?

You entered. And that's how you win.

I know. Amazing, isn't it?

Here's how I know - because I just won something. Something huge. A bucket list item.

I've been a lifelong SNL fan, so when I saw this tweet, I jumped all over it:

I had no expectations. I fully thought my email would end up in some kind massive email server that would be read by a bot and promptly deleted. But, if I didn't enter, I couldn't win. So I sent an email.

I included pictures of myself, dressed as SNL characters:

And the video series I made with my Tina Fey/Amy Poehler action figures:

And then, I waited. And, as most of us would, forgot that I even sent the email...until last Friday, when I received this:

I almost deleted it. I thought it was spam. And then, when I realized it wasn't, I almost pooped my pants and I'm not afraid to admit that.

The last time I won something was in 1998 - I won tickets to see Janet Jackson's "Velvet Rope" tour from a Milwaukee radio station. Guess how I won? I called. About a hundred times. I hit "redial" over and over. And I won.

Somehow, between having a wonderful babysitter, airline miles and a great boss, we've pulled it off so that we're going to the SNL Weekend Update dress rehearsal next week - we'll be in NYC for less than 24 hours, but it will be worth every second.

So there it is: the secret to winning. You can't win if you don't enter. And if you don't enter, you're not allowed to complain about not winning. Kind of like voting, right?
