Michigan Maternity: Is Having a Baby Pricier in the Great Lakes State?

Curious about the cost of bringing a bundle of joy into the world right here in Michigan? You may be surprised, but not shocked, considering everything is more expensive these days. According to a new study released by Policy Scout, the cost of having a new baby is pretty high in America, and that is just looking at the delivery itself.

"The cost of birth is determined by the delivery method, whether you have health insurance, and the extent of pre-and post-natal complications. That notwithstanding, the cost of giving birth varies from one State to another", Policy Scout said.

 

Is It More Expensive to Give Birth in Michigan Than in Other States?

According to the study, the average cost of having a baby in the United States ranges from $10,808-$30,000. For Michiganders, the cost leans more towards the middle of the spectrum, which is good.

Policy Scout found a vaginal birth in Michigan will cost around $6,545.41 with insurance and $11,211.17 without insurance. For those births requiring a C-section with insurance, the cost is $9,695.69 and $15,107.17 without insurance.

Interestingly enough, Wisconsin has the highest price tag for the cost of childbirth. In the Badger state, vaginal births with insurance cost $10,171.19 and $17,888.14 without insurance, with a C-section costing $14,239.59 with insurance and $23,746.69 without insurance.
