Hotel Offers Free Stay for Women Traveling to Michigan for Abortions

As numerous states have tightened laws and made it more difficult, if not impossible, for women to have abortions, a hotel in the tiny town of Yale, Michigan is offering refuge.

The manager of the Yale Hotel released a statement saying women traveling to Michigan to undergo the procedure will be able to take advantage of free accommodations at the hotel.

Shelley O'Brien made the offer on the hotel's Facebook page.

"Dear sisters that live in Alabama, Ohio, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, or any of the other states that follow with similar laws restricting access, We cannot do anything about the way you are being treated in your home state," the post reads. "But, if you can make it to Michigan, we will support you with several nights lodging, and transportation to and from your appointment."

O'Brien tells CNN that no one has taken advantage of the offer, although 'Jane's Room' as she calls it is ready. The name honors Jane Roe, the pseudonym for Norma McCorvey who was the plaintiff in the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case.

Reaction to the offer has gotten a lot of positive feedback and although O'Brien says she has taken some criticism, she remains strong in her belief.

"Women should have autonomy over their own bodies," she said. "If we do not have control over our own bodies, then this is not a free world."
