Hawaii Battling Deer Problem
The big island of Hawaii is being overrun with deer. No one is sure how they got there, but they are certainly not enjoying the damage they do to farm crops and native plants.
On nearby islands like Maui, deer have done irreparable damage to forests and vegetation. Sam Ohu Gon III, senior scientist and cultural adviser for the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, said that the deer could threaten several native plants that are important for the environment and Hawaiian culture.
So far, allowing hunting in Hawaii has met resistance.
I think they are missing out on an opportunity for tourism. Blaze orange Hawaiian shirts could be the rage.
Or we could send in Ted Nugent.
