From Homecoming Queen to Acclaimed Photographer, Grand Blanc Alum Debuts in NYC
Kim Myers-Robertson has come a long way since the 19-year-old girl that got off the bus in New York hoping to discover all the magic the city had to offer. Now, the Grand Blanc High School alum is about to see the years of hard work showcased in one amazing show.
New York City's Alchemy Gallery will present “Kim Myers: Kool Thing”. The first show of 2023 for the gallery, the showcase will be "a provocative, compelling retrospective covering over 25 years the now renowned photographer Kim Myers career" and be her very first gallery debut.
Growing up in Grand Blanc, the class of 83's Myers-Roberston had a face that was destined to put her in front of cameras around the world. Still, Kim chose to channel her inner artistic vibe and an eye for fashion to work looking through the lens of a camera and capturing moments and images that would make her a name not only in the world of fashion but as a photography icon.
I remember opening a Marie Claire years back and seeing breathtaking photos and realizing the mastermind behind the snippets in time was a former Grand Blanc High School classmate. In addition to Marie Claire magazine, she has been featured in some of the top publications in the world including Vogue, Elle, and Glamour, and has shot ad campaigns Gap and Moët to name a few.
“Kim Myers: Kool Thing” will debut on January 27th at the Alchemy Gallery’s Lower East Side venue and run through February 12th. Attendees will be able to see 25 years of creative interpretive inspiration through the "eye" of Myers-Robertson.
“I’ve always seen fashion shoots as short stories in my head. Inspiration is everywhere and I tend to shoot what comes naturally. Although, give me a little glitter, a fearless woman, and some leopard print whenever possible. Twenty-five years in, it still feels like I’m playing like I did as a kid. This collection captures the stories that have been telling and re-telling my whole life", she told KDHamptons in a recent interview.
