What should be more important to a school's administrators? A student's hair or their character?

With her parent's permission, 11 year-old Kamyrn did something very brave over the weekend. She shaved her head to support her best friend, Delaney, who is struggling with the baldness that comes with her chemotherapy treatments for neuroblastoma.

Her selfless act earned her a suspension from her charter elementary school when she came back to class on Monday. Administrators point to the school's dress code policy, which says in part; "to promote safety, uniformity and a non-distracting environment for the school's students. Under this policy, shaved heads are not permitted." Kamryn's mom e-mailed the school to explain the special circumstances, but they were committed to not making any exceptions.

Delaney's mom was unhappy with Kamryn's suspension as well, but she has been amazed by the overwhelming support for the girls via her Facebook page.
