Genesee County Sheriff Hosting Virtual Human Trafficking Town Hall
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office, G.H.O.S.T., and Voices For Children are teaming up for a virtual human trafficking townhall on Thursday January 28th.
January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and the Genesee County Sheriff's Office has put together a great resource for families in our area. G.H.O.S.T. is the specialized unit inside the Sherriff's office that focuses on human trafficking happening right here in Genesee County. It stands for Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, and they have been extremely busy since they were formed.
The main message that they have been trying to get all of us to understand, is that human trafficking is a real problem in our community. Most people think of it as an issue that they will never have to deal with, but they could not be more wrong.
Human Trafficking is a real problem throughout Michigan, and especially in our three county area. The virtual town hall will feature Sherriff Chis Swanson, members of the GHOST team, and victim advocates talking about the problems we face.
One of the most important parts of the presentation will focus on the apps that kids use everyday, and how they can quickly lead to a dangerous situation.
I think one of the most important parts of the virtual town hall will be the Q & A session. This is an issue that most people turn a blind eye to, until it's too late. After seeing the actual stats around human trafficking, I can imagine that there will be many questions coming from parents.
If you have kids, I highly recommend being a part of the virtual townhall. It happens on the Genesee County Sherriff's Department Facebook page. You can get more details on the event page here.
