Genesee County will find itself in the spotlight for the final night of the Democratic National Convention when one of our own takes the stage in Chicago.

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is set to take the national stage as a featured speaker at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), delivering a powerful address just before Vice President Kamala Harris accepts the nomination.

The evening kicks off at 8 PM Central Time with the National Anthem performed by The Chicks, setting the tone for an inspiring night. Following the anthem, an impressive lineup of speakers will take the stage, each bringing their unique perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing our nation.

Notables taking part in the evening are actress Kerry Washington followed by remarks from Meena Harris, Ella Emhoff, the step-daughter of Kamal Harris, Helena Hudlin, and D.L. Hughley, and Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer to name a few. Sheriff Swanson is set to speak shortly night before Vice President Harris takes the stage to accept the Democratic nomination according to the DNC release.

Rumors were swirling throughout the day Thursday that Sheriff Swanson would be speaking at the convention, although there was no official word from Swanson or his team leading up to the big night. Sheriff Swanson is known for his leadership and commitment to community-based policing, and will surely bring his voice to the forefront, highlighting the importance of justice, unity, and positive change.
