What’s on the Ballot for Genesee County and Michigan Voters
Alright, here’s what’s coming up around Mid-Michigan, and there’s quite a bit people will be weighing in on.
What Genesee County Voters Will Decide on May 5
First, locally in Genesee County, voters will head to the polls May 5 for a couple of school-related proposals. In Grand Blanc, there’s a $149 million bond on the table. That would cover things like a new performing arts center, updates to buildings, security improvements, and technology upgrades across the district. Officials say it wouldn’t raise the current tax rate, it would continue what’s already in place.

Over in Linden, it’s a different approach. They’re asking voters to approve a sinking fund that would kick in after their current one expires in 2026. That money would go toward building repairs, school safety, technology, and buses. Again, the focus is maintaining funding, not adding a brand-new tax burden based on a report from MLive.
Why the 2026 Michigan Election Will Be a Big One
Looking ahead, the New York Times reports that 2026 is shaping up to be a major election year across Michigan. We’re talking governor, U.S. Senate, and every major statewide office all on the same ballot. On top of that, Bridge Michigan says there could be several proposals, including one asking voters whether the state should rewrite its constitution.
Younger Voters in Michigan Are Paying Attention
And one thing that’s starting to stand out according to PBS. Especially around college campuses like Ann Arbor, is younger voters showing up and paying attention, but also feeling frustrated with both major parties. They’re engaged, just not fully bought in.

So whether it’s local schools or big statewide races, there’s a lot coming at voters here in Mid-Michigan.
