One Michigan City Just Broke Its Snowfall Record for the Season
It's been a winter to remember for many of us in Michigan and one 'Up North' city just broke its all-time snowfall record for the season.
Last month, we told you that Gaylord, Michigan was just a few inches away from topping its snowfall record, and just a few weeks later the Alpine Village put the official record on the books.
Gaylord Breaks Its Yearly Snowfall Records
According to the Detroit Free Press, the National Weather Service office (located just a few miles south of the city) broke its record at 149.5 inches of snowfall from December 2024 - February 2025. That tops the 2016-2017 winter record by a half inch.
When we expand the season to include November through today, Gaylord has once again topped its record. The NWS reports that Gaylord has gotten 191.7 inches of snow since the white stuff began falling in November.
This year's snowfall tops the record set in the 2006 - 2007 season when those folks saw 185.6 inches of snow for the season. Gaylord's 4,300 residents typically see about 148.8 inches of snow in a 'normal' season.

Other Snowfall Records Around Michigan
Sault Ste. Marie is currently experiencing its second-highest snowfall season, with just over 185 inches of snow. The UP city's record is 222 inches set in 1995-1996.
Traverse City, which also gets plenty of lake-effect snow each year, is experiencing its fourth-snowiest season this year.
