The two best things EVER, together, in a neighborhood that needs it.

I refuse to believe that the news of the last few days out of my hometown of Milwaukee will define the city, so when I saw this, I had to share it.

Yesterday, Tamesha Russell handed out cupcakes and free hugs in the Sherman Park neighborhood that has been rocked by rioting and violence. Cecil Brewer and his neighbor spent hours removing rocks that were thrown onto his property because, as he says, "we look out for each other."

"The reason we're doing this is to keep everyone safe."

Hundreds of people walked from a local church to the gas station that was burned and looted, and held a vigil. I absolutely love what Steve Godfrey, who attended the vigil from Waukesha, said: "I see this as one metropolitan area, and if we're suffering down here, we're all suffering and it doesn't need to be that way."

Amen. Peace to my hometown; we ARE one. We ARE better than this. We WILL get through this, and we WILL be better for it.
