With the Firebirds returning to the ice later this year, they've named a new head coach.

On Thursday, June 3rd, 2021, the Flint Firebirds announced a new head coach for the club. The new head coach is Ted Dent and he brings a lot of great leadership and experience to the team.

The Flint Firebirds are excited to announce the hiring of the most experienced and successful coach we’ve had here...Ted Dent brings a strong work ethic and dedication we need as we strive for continued success here in Flint...said Flint Firebirds President of Hockey Operations Terry Christensen.

Head Coach Ted Dent spent 11 years in the American Hockey League with the Rockford IceHogs. During his time with the IceHogs, he took on the role of Assistant Coach in 2006 before being named as Head Coach in 2011. Dent is also the all-time winningest coach in Rockford IceHogs history with 223 wins. Ted Dent also just spend some time as a pro scout for the Arizona Coyotes before becoming head coach of the Firebirds.

This is not the only staffing change that the Firebirds have made ahead of the 2021-2022 season. Back in May, the Firebirds named Terry Christensen as the team's President of Hockey Operations. On top of that, the team named Jack Sznewajs as the new Director of Broadcasting and Communications after the departure of our good friend Dominic Hennig.

It is exciting to see the world opening back up and we can't wait to get back to the hockey action with the Flint Firebirds. The games were always a blast and it really is awesome to have such amazing hockey available to us right here in our own backyard!
