Flint Mayor Karen Weaver and the City of Flint has filed a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers, and distributors for "their role in the opioid crisis in Flint."

City Attorney Angela Wheeler, flanked by Mayor Weaver, made the announcement in a press conference that took place at Flint City Hall on Tuesday, February 19th.

Wheeler briefly described the lawsuit before ceding the floor to Weaver, who spoke of the toll opioids have taken on the people of the city and the importance of accountability. The Mayor, drawing parallels between challenges the city faced during the Flint water crisis and the opioid lawsuit, spoke of the importance of fighting injustice.

"We're going to continue our fight to take back our city from those who use the almighty dollar and poisoning marketing and crippling us. Here we go again putting profit over the public health and well-being of people. We're not going to let that happen."

The City of Flint issued the following press release, further outlining the details of the lawsuit.
