If you're like me, you woke up realizing you still had to go to work this morning, and you weren't an overnight millionaire. Two lucky lotto players are mega-rich after hitting the $632.6 million jackpot in Wednesday night's drawing. The winning tickets were sold in California and Wisconsin, matching all six numbers: 6 - 14 - 25 - 33 - 46 with a Powerball number of 17.

I always think the same things after one of these big jackpots. First, everything I could have done with a major windfall like that, and second, how do these people get so lucky? Is it fate, strategy, or just dumb luck? Then I thought, maybe it's where they go to buy their lottery tickets. Is there really such a thing as a "lucky store".

Although there were a ton of Michigan Lottery winners in and around the Flint area last year, there were only a handful of really big winners, and the handful was actually pretty full.

How Many Big Lottery Winning Tickets Were Sold in Genesee County for 2021?

According to the Michigan Lottery website, there were 7 big winning tickets sold in Genesee County during 2021. By big, we mean enough for the Michigan Lottery to do a press release so the world knows. Think over $500,000. Tickets were purchased at the following locations;

  • Admiral Gas Station on Miller Road, Swartz Creek
  • Speedway on Owen Road, Fenton
  • Shell Gas Station on West Vienna Road, Clio
  • Money Convenience on Richfield Road, Flint
  • Miller Point Mart on Miller Road, Flint
  • Speedway on West Grand Blanc Road, Grand Blanc
  • Marathon Gas Station on Clio Road, Mt. Morris

Prizes ranged from $500,000, $1 million, and even $1000 a week for life.

Is Genesee County Lucky for Lotto?

Compared to other counties around the state of Michigan, Genesee County held its own when it came to kicking out big lottery winners in 2021. According to the press releases on the Michigan Lottery website, Macomb County had the highest number of big winners with 16 tickets leading to a new tax bracket. Wayne County clocked in with 10 winners, Oakland County followed with 9 big winners, the Detroit area with 8, and Genesee County and Kent County with 7, just for comparison.

Now there's no guarantee that hitting up one of the winning locations will have you shopping for a new yacht tomorrow, but it couldn't hurt if Lady Luck is on your side. Just last week the Michigan Lottery paid out $93,572,675 in total prizes. You could be next!
