Firm Owned by Detroit Pistons Owner Tied to Inmate Phone Scheme
Stay with me on this one, it's hard to follow.
A company that is owned by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores is named in a Massachusetts lawsuit, along with another defendant.
The lawsuit, which was filed by consumer and prisoner's rights groups, his company is involved in an illegal kickback scheme that raises the price of phone calls made by MA inmates.
The company, Securus Technologies, also runs telephone systems in Michigan jails.
The inflated costs, as alleged by the suit, are passed down to prisoners' families and lawyers who have little choice but to pay them.
So, there's that.
