Before you drop those last $1 bills in your wallet on french fries or a coffee, you should check to see if it's actually worth a fortune.

Rare $1 Bills Could be Worth as Much as $150,000

Before we go much further, it's important to note that finding one of these dollar bills in the wild is much like finding a needle in a haystack. But it's worth a glance, right?

These oddball $1 bills are coveted by collectors who are willing to pay as much as $150,000 per bill.

A Rare Printing Error

According to Wealthy Nickel, batches of one-dollar bills printed in 2014 and 2016 slipped into circulation after a misprint by the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

This misprint means there are 6.4 million pairs of $1 bills with duplicate serial numbers floating around in circulation.

Technically, this misprint makes these dollar bills counterfeit currency.

"This miscommunication resulted in dollars printed with duplicate serial numbers, technically counterfeiting their currency. Typically, every bill in circulation has a unique serial number to identify it."

Wealthy Nickel goes on to say that since neither of these misprints were caught by the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, currency collectors are clamoring to find matching pairs of bills with duplicate serial numbers.

What Should You Look For?

There are three things you need to look for if you're going to find a dollar bill that's worth a fortune:

  • The series date located near George Washington's photo must read "Series 2013."
  • The bill must have a "B" Federal Reserve Seal above the serial number.
  • The serial number must end with a star (*) and fall within the range B00000001* – B00250000* or B03200001*-B09600000*

Like I said, it's a needle in a haystack. But it's worth a look and hey, it's nice to dream, right?

Take a Creepy Look Inside Detroit's Now Defunct Fisher Body Plant

Once a vibrant part of Detroit's landscape, the now-defunct Fisher Body plant now lies in ruin.

The plant was once capable of producing more than 350,000 car bodies each year and is credited with milestones like producing the first automobile airbag in 1974.

Since its demise in 1984, nearly every ounce of metal has been lifted from the facility for scrap, and what is left is a dirty, dingy haven for graffiti.

YouTuber Chosen Won gets credit for the photos, taken from a creepy walkthrough of the plant in September of 2021.
