Step aside Benji,  Hollywood’s latest star is a two-year old terrier mix named Monte. Although canine stars aren't new to the movie scene, Monte's story could be made into a blockbuster rags to riches movie itself.

It wasn't long ago that the adorable pooch was sitting in a cage at a kill shelter in New Mexico, hoping to be adopted before his time ran out. He had a moment of luck when  he was sent to Phoenix's HALO Animal Rescue last spring. Not long after a miracle happened when two animal trainers came looking for a certain adorable pup with a scruffy face and sweet eyes to take the lead in the new Disney remake of the animated 1955 classic  "Lady and the Tramp".  Monte was the one.

“He was adopted from us in April of 2018, and we knew that the people that were meeting with him were considering him to be a Hollywood star, but we didn’t know for what, because it was top secret,” HALO President Heather Allen told the Arizona Republic. “We knew he had the potential to become a Hollywood dog.”

Since he was still a pup of only 8 months old when he was adopted, Monte had the playful energy and the ability to be trained for his breakout role. Fate and luck were  definitely on this sweet boys side.

You can check out Monte in his staring role as Tramp on Disney+ when the remake premieres on the new streaming platform on November 12th.
