The NFL is Heading to Michigan! Detroit Wins Bid to Host 2024 NFL Draft
The hype that Detroit felt back in 2006 when they hosted Super Bowl XL is about to be back. Detroit has won the bid to host the 2024 NFL Draft.
We told you at the beginning of March that Detroit was on the shortlist to host an upcoming NFL Draft. Detroit was sharing the race to host the mega NFL event with two other strong contenders, Green Bay and Washington D.C. On Monday at the NFL owner's meetings in Florida, the league made the big announcement that they have awarded the bid to make Detroit the host city of the 2024 NFL Draft.
"The draft has become a prominent offseason event across the country, and we are excited to work with the Lions and their partners to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to the Motor City," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the City of Detroit the Lions passionate fan base and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience."

The draft, a first for Detroit, will include three days of fan interaction reportedly to be held mainly in the Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza area. There will be an interactive football theme park where fans can enjoy games, exhibits, musical performances and autograph sessions plus have an opportunity to take pictures with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
“Weather permitting, the draft will be outside at Campus Martius. That will be the draft stage,” said Detroit Lions President Rod Wood. “We’ll be using a lot of the venues in downtown, including the Fox Theater will be part of it, Hart Plaza will be part of it. Hopefully will have some music events at Ford Field and maybe even Little Caesars. So it will be throughout the whole city.”
Winning the chance to host such a major event will be huge for not only football fans, but the general economy of Detroit as well. This year's NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas, and the 2023 event will be held in Kansas City.
