Detroit Pistons Bought Coats Made by the Homeless – The Good News
We've never heard of the Empowerment Plan until now, and it's awesome.
The Detroit Pistons bought winter coats for their players at a cost of $125 per player and, for each coat purchased, another was donated to a person in need.
That's because they purchased through the Empowerment Plan, an organization that hires people who are homeless to manufacture their products. They make about 40 coats every day at their 20,000 square-foot facility on the east side of Detroit. 47 of their employees come from local homeless shelters.
The coats are also designed to turn into a sleeping bag.
The Empowerment Plan offers GED testing, driver training, domestic violence support and more, and it's during paid time.
