The National Hockey League played its All Star Game last night, and while the scoring was terrific, it was primarily because no one played defense. In the annual game to showcase the NHL it was obvious that it was going to be a scoring duel. At the end of the first period there had already been eight goals scored. Who could have guessed that another thirteen were on the way? In a wild 11-10 win for Team Lidstrom, it turned out to be all offense, all night. The contest did have one unique moment with the first penalty shot in NHL All Star game history.

This was the first year for the new format in the All Star game where the teams were chosen by the captains, regardless of which team participants played for.
