Danger: Experts Warn Michigan Pet Owners of Threat
This week the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan issued a stark warning to pet owners and all animal lovers in Michigan. The warning was issued on Wednesday, March 19th.
What Animals Should You Be Concerned About?
As a pet lover, I've had everything from ducklings and fish to cats and dogs, but there are many more animals that Michiganders consider not just pets but valued family members. Ferrets, chickens, even farm animals make this list. Well several of them are under greater risk this year according to the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan.

In a mid-week post to their Facebook page they warn pet owners, animal handlers, and anyone who has a love for animals of any kind to be on the lookout. While we know that hawks have been known to swoop down and carry off small animals it appears that the threat to our beloved tiny furry friends is going to be even worse this 2025 season.
This warning easily applies to owners of cats, small dogs, and chickens among other animals under 12 pounds. The Hawk Warning from the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan reads as follows:
"HAWK WARNING: Park Rangers and Vet Offices are putting out warnings. The year the hawks really seem to be out in force. The pets that are in real danger are ones who are 12 pounds and under. These are the pets that hawks can swoop down and grab. Do not leave your pets outside without supervision."
