It may have started out as the usual holiday party, but it didn't end that way for the 198 employees of St. John Properties in Maryland.

The real estate firm handed each employee a red envelope as the arrived a the party. After a greeting and congratulations on a successful year by founder and chairman Edward St. John, the employees were told they would split a $10 million bonus. He then told them to open their envelopes that contained their bonus amount.  As the pictures and videos show they were completely overwhelmed.

Employees at St. John Properties will get each $50,000 to $250,000 depending on how long they have been with the company. It will also be in addition to the company’s annual year-end bonus.

“To celebrate the achievement of our goal, we wanted to reward our employees in a big way that would make a significant impact on their lives,” St. John said. “I am thankful for every one of our employees, for their hard work and dedication. I couldn’t think of a better way to show it.”

St. John Properties says their employees described the surprise bonuses as “life-changing”, allowing them to do things such as pay off their mortgage, pay for their children’s educations, take a dream vacation and more.
